Taking Charge of your Time

# Introduction Time management is about managing your day affectively so you can achieve all that you want to achieve. It is also about making use of time today, so that you can obtain larger, long term goals whose deadline is sometime in the future. Being able to manage your time well will leave you with a feeling of mastery and accomplishment, knowing that you put your time to good use.

# Objectives  To increase awareness of your attitude towards time.  To learn to plan time by setting priorities.  To identify signs of poor time management.  To recognize the benefits of time management

# Why Manage Time?  Time is limited - Time is a very special resource in that you cannot store it or save it for later. If you don't use your time wisely, you can never get it back.  Time is scarce - Most people feel like they have too much to do and not enough time. Time management helps you use the time that you do have in better ways.  You need time to get what you want out of life - learn how to make time for the things that are important to you. Even if you can only afford to give a small amount of time each week to your goals.

#  You can accomplish more with less effort - When you become more productive using improved time management skills and tools, you can accomplish more with less effort.  Too many choices - Time management helps you make conscious choices so you can spend more of your time doing things that are important and valuable to you. Why Manage Time? (contd.)

# How Do You Feel About Time?  A stitch in time saves nine.  Time flies.  Time is money.  Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today?  It seems there’s either enough time or money, but never both at once.  Make every moment count.

# Symptoms of Poor Time Management  A lack of achievement.  Deadlines always missed.  High proportion of time spent socializing at work.  Excessive amount of time on the telephone.  Indecisiveness leading to delayed work.  Constantly interrupting others and being interrupted.

# Effective Time work  Don't Create Impossible Situations - Don't get trapped into doing too much. Use time to create success, not failure. Make time your friend not your enemy.  Define Your Priorities Using the 3-List Method - All time management begins with planning. Use lists to set priorities, plan activities and measure progress.  List #1 - The weekly calendar.  List #2 - The daily "Things to Do“  List #3 - Goals and other things Plan your work, then work your plan
