Graphing the Atmosphere: Composition & Layers

Factor Labeling & Unit Conversions The amount of Nitrogen in the atmosphere is equal to 78%; how many degrees (°) does that represent? The amount of Oxygen in the atmosphere is equal to 21%; how many degrees (°) does that represent? The remaining quantity of gas in the atmosphere is equal to 1%; how many degrees (°) does that represent? 100% of a quantity is equal to 360° of a pie graph!

Seriously…solve the problem! 100% 360° x Solving the Problem… This is a conversion factor…they are equal to each other; set-up another conversion factor to solve for your unknown The unit that you want goes here This is the unit that you want to cancel out

Not kidding around, SOLVE IT! 100% 360° x Solving the Problem… The unit that you want goes here This is the unit that you want to cancel out ??? The bottom left box is left blank The known value (which cancels out the unit that you want to cancel out) goes here!

Graphing your data 25% = 90° One/Fourth of the PIE 75% = 270° Three/Fourths of the PIE 100% = 360° Which is the entire PIE Use a protractor to determine the amount of the PIE that each gas in the atmosphere should have.
