Our Carbon Footprint

What is a carbon footprint? Carbon footprint is the measure of how much we as a whole, impact the environment. It’s measured in how much greenhouse gases produced by an individual, a state or the country.

Carbon Footprint The carbon footprint is made of two parts: Primary Footprint – the measure of our direct emissions of CO2 from burning fossil fuels, domestic energy use, and transportation. Secondary Footprint – measure of indirect CO2 emissions from the lifecycle of products we use. (The more we buy the more emissions produced)

Global Warming Over the past two decades there has been a significant change in our earth’s climate. Scientists believe the cause of this is due to the immense amount of greenhouse gases being produced. Evidence? -20,000 square kilometers of fresh water ice melted in the Arctic between 1965 and of the last 12 years rank amongst the 12 warmest years on record for global temperatures -Rising sea temperatures.

What can we do? As individuals we can follow these few tips: 1.Turn electronics off when they aren’t in use. 2.Turn down the Heat/ AC a few degrees. 3.Carpool or take the bus or subway. 4. RecycleRecycle 5.Use recycled products.
