God’s Chosen Ones 1 Peter 1:1-12

About Being Chosen God chose us, we did not choose Him …but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ESV)

About Being Chosen God chose us, we did not choose Him Choosing pictured as adoption For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:15-17 ESV)

About Being Chosen God chose us, we did not choose Him Choosing pictured as adoption Were chosen in God’s foreknowledge …even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love (Ephesians 1:4 ESV)

Chosen for a Purpose According to the foreknowledge of God By the work of the Spirit So that you may obey Jesus Christ And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, (Hebrews 5:9 ESV)

Chosen for a Purpose According to the foreknowledge of God By the work of the Spirit So that you may obey Jesus Christ With obedience comes sprinkling…

Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.” And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.” (Exodus 24:3-8 ESV)

The Condition of the Chosen? Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, (1 Peter 1:3-4 ESV) Given a new birth, 2nd chance, a do-over

The Condition of the Chosen? …who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5 ESV) Guarded through faith for salvation

The Condition of the Chosen? In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV) Could rejoice because trials made their faith more valuable

The Condition of the Chosen? Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8-9 ESV) Could rejoice even without seeing Him because of faith

The Condition of the Chosen? Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. (1 Peter 1:10-12 ESV) Possessed what prophets and angels longed to know

Truths for the Chosen Today? God HAS given us a do-over There is a great emphasis on inheritance Our inheritance is guarded We will be tested by fire God’s plan was devised, revealed, bought with blood Inquired into by prophets and angels Is fulfilled today in His chosen, in YOU
