 His ancestors were fighting in the civil war. They were pioneers from Ireland and Scotland.  He had 4 brothers.

 He was born in 1913 in Yorba Linda, California,  He went to Whittier College,  After that he went to Duke University, he studied law there.

 He married Pat Ryan on June  They were too poor to take pictures at their wedding.  They had two daughters.

 He was elected to the house of representatives in  In 1950 he was elected to the Senate.  He was elected vice president in 1952 with Dwight D. Eisenhower.

 In 1960 he ran for president against John F. Kennedy and lost.  8 years later he ran for president and won.

 He started the Environmental Protection Agency.  He ended the Vietnam war.

 In 1974 he left the White House because of the Watergate Scandal.  The Republicans broke in to the Democratic National Committee and stole information, this is the Watergate Scandal.

 One of his daughters married in the White House.  He went on a helicopter to go to lots of places.

 He died in 1994 at the age of 91.
