2 Facts 1. On 15 August 1971, Richard Nixon severed the dollar’s link to gold and destroyed Bretton Woods, the world’s monetary system. For three centuries before 1971, the world more or less had stable money. 2. He served as vice president under Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953-61. Nixon ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in 1960, losing by a very close margin to John F. Kennedy.

3 3. Richard Milhous Nixon, 37th President of the United States, died April 22, 1994, from complications of a severe stroke. The late president became Oliphant's signature image during the Watergate hearings in the early 1970s. 4. Nixon was the only president to be forced to resign the office

4 5. Richard Milhous Nixon was born in a small farmhouse in Yorba Linda, California on January 9th, 1913.
