The primary charge to the Growth of the CIRTL Network Committee is to guide the CIRTL Network Leadership Community in developing organization, operations and business plans for an expanded CIRTL Network. Growth Plan: CIRTL for the Nation Charge to Committee December, 2009

Members of the Growth Committee Ann Austin (ERT) Kitch Barnicle (Chair) (CIRTL Central) Rique Campa (MSU) Don Gillian-Daniel (UW) Tom Harris (Vanderbilt) Bruce Herbert (TAMU) Bob Mathieu (CIRTL Central/UW) Wayne Patterson (Howard) Tricia Rankin (CU)

Growth Plan: CIRTL for the Nation A. Opening Statement B. Benefits To Research Universities of Participating in the Network C. Specific Aims for D. Membership Levels E. Membership Requirements and Expectations 1. Requirements for Core Institutional Members 2. Expectations for Affiliate Members 3. Requirements and Expectations for Individual Members 4. Requirements and Expectations for Managing Network Members F. Organizational Structure G. Business Plan

Questions 1. Questions of clarification about the Growth Plan document? 2. Big Picture - Is expansion the appropriate next step? Is 25 universities a reasonable number for the next step? What is a reasonable balance of expansion vs. further development of networking ideas? What kind of institutions? Selection Criteria?

Questions 3. If 25 universities, does the current Growth Plan makes sense for this size of network? The Affiliate Member is a major new idea to better involve non-R1institutions and individuals. Is it reasonable? Plausible? The Individual Member is a major new idea to provide access for individual future faculty not at the Core Member Institutions. Is it reasonable? Plausible? Feasible? Is it reasonable to expect NSF to fund the expansion? Is the revenue level from the institutions reasonable? Plausible?

Questions 4. If you are sitting at an R1 in a role of your choice, is this plan attractive to you? 5. Does this Growth Plan get us to a sustainable place in 5 years? What does this Network look like in 5 years? 6. Does this Growth Plan help us Increase Impact on National Policy and Culture? 7. Where does evaluation fit into a sustainable model, say 5 years from now?

Executive Session of the NAB and Report Out The CIRTL Network members and Susan Hixson will hang up from the teleconference bridge when the NAB moves to the Executive Session. When the Executive Session is finished, a NAB member will indicate in the Elluminate chat window when everyone else can rejoin the teleconference.
