Ergonomics Space Chairs 25 computers for work Not enough space for books and computer usage Leg room is not enough Chairs Sufficient back support Adjustable seating positions Some chairs have back lining coming off This is a safety hazard Space – how many people are expected to work in the room? There are 25 people that are expected to work in the room. There is not really sufficient space for 25 people because we cannot put our books down and work on the computer in our workspace. There is not enough leg room for a student to be comfortable, this may cause muscle problems. Chairs – suitability and state of repair. The chairs are suitable and provide sufficient back support, also you can adjust seating positions. Although some chairs have their back plastic lining coming off, which can be a safety hazard, because it may cut someone trying to get past.

The PC’s are relatively old now, but are sufficient enough to do basic tasks that the school requires you to do. Most of them work perfectly fine, some can glitch out sometimes, same with the monitors that go with the PC’s. PCs – cleanliness of keyboard and mouse. The keyboards in fairness are a bit dirty, although some are clean. The dirty ones are usually the ones that have been used by a student who has been eating near the computer and using it. The mouse is the same, most are clean except some of the R&L buttons on the mice are greasy.

The projector is safely positioned above the workspace, it also has secondary support by a chain so if it does fall, it still has the chain holding onto it. The projector can cause eye strain if stood in front of it for long periods of time as it is quite far away from the actual smart board and is angled downwards, so the light would be in the teacher’s eyes. Wiring – is it safely tucked away. The wiring wraps around the room in a white plastic housing, these wires are safely tucked away and won’t cause any safety harm to any student. However the wires underneath the tables, some are tucked away in a metal housing, he wires are still exposed. And behind the metal housing some wires are dangling freely and can be a safety issue, causing electrocution and tripping.

The lighting is more than adequate because there are lighting distributers on the lightbulbs themselves, which as the name describes distributes the light so that it is not focused in a specific points around the classroom. It does not cause glaring on monitors. Natural Light – is it adequate, does it glare on the monitors. There are big windows on the left side of the classroom which provide sufficient natural lighting, during sunny times of the day, if you are on the right computer can cause quite a lot of glare rendering it impossible to see what you are working on.  

Atmosphere Temperature Sound Can be pretty hot Sound levels are normal But the room has an AC Also able to open the windows Sound Sound levels are normal Students talking and the AC Temperature – the room needs to be comfortable to work in. The temperature can reach pretty hot at times, but the classroom has an AC which can cool students down. Also you could open the windows during summer if you prefer natural wind compared to artificial air. Sound – what are the sound levels in the room? Sound levels are normal. The only real sound you hear is the students talking and maybe the AC. Apart from that, there are no sounds that may distract you from your work.

There are no storage cabinets in the classroom. However there are some storages boxes which pose as much as a threat as the cabinets do. At times they can be heavy and they can pose as a tripping hazard. They are suitable enough because each class has their own box where their work is stored. Notice Boards – position and security. The position of the notice board is right when you walk in to your left. The board is safely secured on the wall. However, if you are looking at the board the door has a potential to hit you if opened violently. Wastepaper Bins – where are they? They are positioned, one underneath the smartboard, which is neatly tucked away and is not much of a safety hazard. And the other is behind the door, this also creates no safety hazard as it is away from the walk area.

Fire safety Fire Extinguisher Doorways Next to the door Benefits Disadvantages Doorways Tall and wide Sealed Not blocked Fire Extinguisher – suitability, state of repair and location. There is one CO2 extinguisher, it is in perfect condition. It is located right next to the door, this has benefits and disadvantages. The benefits being no one needs to come right inside to scramble around looking for the extinguisher while in a fire. The disadvantage being, if everyone is trying to push through the door, the extinguisher is extremely difficult to access. Doorways – clear and usable. The door is bigger than average, and can easily fit two people going through it. It has a tight seal so it can keep heat inside of a room, as well as oxygen. The pathway to the door is not blocked so there is no safety hazard here.
