LACUE 2007 Conference Notes A Presentation for Abney Faculty By V. Martinez

What’s LACUE? I’m glad you asked that! LACUE stands for Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators

LACUE Membership Membership in LACUE is Free! A membership application can be completed at You will be sent s and newsletters. Next year’s conference begins on December 3. Should you join? Why not? It’s free! It looks professional on a resume!

LACUE Presenters Do you have great ideas that use technology in the classroom? Some of the best and most useful information I received at the conference came from fellow educators. Abney teachers are innovators who work really hard to promote student learning. Is there something that works for you that other teachers might enjoy using too? Start thinking!

My Presentation Kristen Hernandez, a 6 th grade teacher at Carolyn Park, had several wonderful ideas using a software program called “Tinker Plots”. She asked me to share related websites during her presentation. A Data Links web page was born.

Data Links Here’s the site address: ta.html. ta.html There is a list of awesome websites on a variety of levels pertaining to graphing and data. Many are interactive and can be used with the promethean board, as centers, or to send home as practice sites for those kids who need a little extra practice. There are also tutorial videos about “Tinker Plots” listed at the top in case you are interested in the software. Tinker Plots can be used across the curriculum.

Some Websites to Visit Publishing Ideas for the classroom: Jill Esquivel presented some wonderful ideas on student projects using power point print outs. Many of her ideas came from books found at 50 Quick and Easy Science Computer Activities or other books with the same title for Math, Writing, and problem solving

CopyRight or CopyWrong This was a very informative presentation on copyright laws. The entire power point presentation as well as other information is available for free on Some totally free clip art can be found at: mwww.phillipmartin.info/clipart/homepage.ht m
