Rotary District 7620, which includes most of Maryland and Washington, DC, is pleased to call for applications to Rotary Clubs found on our District website for Post Secondary matches and Global Grant scholarships. by clicking on Club Contact Info. District 7620 SCHOLARSHIPS

Post Secondary Scholarships District 7620 offers in 2011 Post Secondary Scholarship matches up to $2,000 for students both residing and enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school in our district for the academic year. Rotary Clubs may submit applications selected for matching to if they are in electronic form such as Word or pdf.

Post Secondary Scholarships District Rotary Clubs may mail paper Post Secondary scholarship match applications to our district office: Rotary District 7620 Sherry Whitworth 4064 Lomar Drive Mount Airy, Maryland A pplications will be reviewed and candidates interviewed in May 2011 to select the scholarships to be matched.

Global Grant Scholarship One Future Vision Global Grant Scholarship for $30,000 minimum will likely be awarded for the academic year to pursue a graduate school program and support Rotary goals in an underdeveloped country abroad in one or more areas.

Global Grant Scholarship Rotary sponsored areas include: Peace and conflict resolution Maternal and child health Disease prevention and treatment Basic education and literacy Water and sanitation Economic and community development

Global Grant Scholarship The Global Grant Scholarship form is under Scholarships on Students submit original and electronic copy of completed applications by 31 October 2011 to a Rotary club in District 7620, listed on the web site above under Club Contacts.

Rotary District 7620 has enjoyed its proximity to the nation’s capital and many world renowned universities that attract Rotary International Visiting Scholars. In the current year we have six inbound Ambassador Scholars from Japan, South Korea, Germany and Denmark. Visiting Scholars

Visiting Scholars These scholars are required to address ten groups during their one year stay and these have included Rotary Clubs, the District Super Summit, the Baltimore Community television show Top of the Morning, and the District Conference at Turf Valley Country Club on 30 April.

Outgoing Scholars 2010 District 7620 sponsored Andréana Lefton, shown at right in London, to attend the London School of Economics during the current year.

Outgoing Scholars 2010 Sponsor Varda Fink of the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rotary Club described Andréana as an outstanding student with almost unlimited potential for growth, exceptionally intelligent, self disciplined and articulate.

Outgoing Scholars 2010 District 7620 also sponsored in 2010 Brent Edwards to finish his Ph.D., in International Education Policy at the University of Amsterdam.

Outgoing Scholars 2010 Sponsor Dr. Anna Mae Kobbe of the College Park Rotary club pointed to Brent’s exceptional grades at both the University of Maryland and the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Master’s degree.

Outgoing Scholars 2011 Rotary District 7620 selected Midshipman Emily Frost of the U.S. Naval Academy as our first Global Grant Scholar.

Outgoing Scholars 2011 Emily has a dual major in English and Mathematics, a 4.00 grade point average and is an avid sailor. She will pursue a Master’s Degree in Operations Research, or applied mathematics, at the University of Melbourne, Australia, with a track in epidemiology to control the spread of disease throughout the world.

Outgoing Scholars 2011 Rotary District 7620 selected harpist Jasmine Hogan of the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute as our last Ambassador Scholar.

Outgoing Scholars 2011 Jasmine will perform on the Baltimore Community Channel 75 show Top of the Morning as well as for our District Conference on 30 April at Turf Valley. She will study Classical Chinese Music at the University of Beijing and speaks Mandarin. Jasmine is hosted by the first Rotary Clubs in China in over half a century.

Questions and Answers I entertain your questions on District 7620 Scholarships, one of our largest programs. I will continue to display information on the goals of the program during the remainder of this discussion.
