Project Summary First Compare the Voice Recognition Engines Second Port the VRE into DM642 Third Develop test application

Problems Selection of Voice Recognition Engine Compare the Performance Response Time Memory Usage Recognition Rate Compare the Purchasing Cost Commercial Version Research Version Compare the Maintenance Cost Commercial Version Research Version Source Code Lock-in

Problems The Performance CompanyTest Hardware Test Environment Average response time(sec) Recognition Rate(%) Bestian partners MobileNo noiseLess than 195 CNUPCNo noise0.5~ ~85.8 Bestian’s engine has better performance.

Problems Purchasing Cost CompanySource Code DocumentTechnical Support Cost Bestian partners Yes ₩ 200,000,000 CNUYesNo Free We should consider the maintenance cost.

Issue (1) Total Costs (Purchase + Maintenance) Total cost is most important factor for making decision. Maintenance cost Bestian is cheaper than free engine Can be handled by a novice engineer Bestian provides technical support for 1 year. CNU should be handled by our own engineers. Poor documentation Difficult to handle errors.

Issue (2) Total Costs Assume that the benefit can be calculated based on performance of the engines. Bestian has better performance than free engine. Different Benefits For simple calculation, Benefit of Bestian = ₩ 100,000,000 per year Benefit of CNU = ₩ 50,000,000 per year Maintenance fee can be calculated based on the engineer level. According to MIC Novice engineer = ₩ 2,800,000 per month Intermediate engineer = ₩ 3,500,000 per month

Solution Total Costs Yr BestianCNU CostbenefitROICostbenefitROI 1 ₩ 200,000,000 ₩ 100,000,000 (0.50) ₩ 42,000,000 ₩ 50,000, ₩ 32,307,692 ₩ 96,153,846 (0.16) ₩ 40,384,615 ₩ 48,076, ₩ 31,065,089 ₩ 92,455, ₩ 38,831,361 ₩ 46,227, ₩ 29,870,278 ₩ 88,899, ₩ 37,337,847 ₩ 44,449, ROI based on present values. The interest rate is 4%. If Posdata uses the VRE more than 3 years, Bestian will make more profits.

Conclusion The Betian is more beneficial after 4 years. Lock-in Two engines are not quite coupled with lock-in problem, Because, customer can get source codes and modify whatever they want. In case of replacing VRE Lock-in should be considered. The standard API in VR engine should be supported in order to prepare for future change. Bestian supports the standard API. CNU has its own standard. In conclusion, CNU may be available for R&D purpose or short time lifespan. In fact, the free engine is not actually free. Bestian is better than non-commercial one in terms of long term cost and lock-in problem.
