Field Placement Process for Students Sign up for interview with Field Faculty  Professional attire  Discussion of learning competencies according to level of education.  Discussion of areas of interest  Background issues and impact on placement; costs associated screenings, immunizations, etc.  Transportation issues  Selection of agency/field placement is determined by Field Faculty; student is provided agency contact information weeks after interview If a student has a specific agency in mind they can indicate that on their application or during interview with faculty member Students are not permitted to contact an agency on their own to discuss potential internship opportunities Jan. 16, 20156

Field Placement Process for Students Agency Interview with Student  Student contacts agency; advised to schedule interview asap  Professional dress  Resume If agency agrees to host intern:  Student completes necessary background checks; HR procedures  Communicates school schedule and availability; semester start date, etc.  Agency signs Placement Confirmation Form Unsuccessful interview/decline intern = Field Faculty explores other options Jan. 16, 20157

Expectations of Students in Field  Students are expected to stay in their field placement for the entire semester(s) they are in field.  They are expected to receive one hour of supervision per week from a qualified supervisor (BSW or MSW approved by the Field Office)  Internship hours are expected to be completed during normal business hours (8am – 5pm)  Field Placements cannot be completed only during weekend and evening hours.  All students entering field are required to attend Field Orientation (prior to their field placement starting)  Display a professional behavior at all times and demonstrate ethical standards for the profession according to the NASW Code of Ethics Jan. 16, 20158

Purpose of Field Education  Improves the student’s ability to translate theory into effective social work practice  Broadens the student’s range of skills for performing quality social work functions  Strengthens the student’s awareness of the values, ethics, motivations, and judgments identified with the profession of social work  Increases student’s awareness of community resources, diversity, and at-risk populations Jan. 16, 20159
