Policy on Breast Cancer Since 1994, a $23 billion investment in cancer research, the incidence of cancer is up 18 percent, and cancer mortality is up 7 percent By the year 2000, cancer will be the leading cause of death in the United States Every minute, another person in the United States dies of cancer

Breast Cancer Action (BCA) Approved April 12, 1995 a nonprofit grassroots organization of breast cancer survivors and their supporters. serve as a catalyst for the prevention and cure of breast cancer

Breast Cancer Action three major goals – To make breast cancer a national priority through education and advocacy – To promote and refocus research on the causes, treatment, cure, and prevention of breast cancer – To empower both women and men so they can fully participate in both personal and public policy decisions related to breast cancer

Breast Cancer Action the lifetime risk of breast cancer has more than doubled, from 1 in 20 to 1 in 8.6 Breast Cancer Action is committed to advocating for the reduction of exposure to environmental factors associated with breast cancers BCA supports the reduction and ultimate elimination of exposure to identified environmental carcinogens, and advocates legislation, regulation, research, and education

Office of National AIDS Policy part of the White House Domestic Policy Council and is tasked with coordinating the continuing efforts of the government to reduce the number of HIV infections across the United States emphasizes prevention through wide-ranging education initiatives and helps to coordinate the care and treatment of citizens with HIV/AIDS coordinates with the National Security Council and the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator

GOALS FOR THE NATIONAL HIV/AIDS STRATEGY REDUCE NEW HIV INFECTIONS – Lower the annual number of new infections by 25% – Reduce HIV transmission by 30% – Increase the percentage of people living with HIV who know their serostatus from 79%to 90% INCREASE ACCESS TO CARE AND IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV – Increase the proportion of newly diagnosed patients linked to clinical care from 65% to85% – Increase the proportion of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program clients who are in continuous care from 73% to 80% – Increase the number of Ryan White clients with permanent housing from 82% to 86% REDUCE HIV-RELATED HEALTH DISPARITIES – Improve access to prevention and care services for all Americans – Increase the proportion of HIV-diagnosed Blacks with undetectable viral load by 20%
