Have Fun, Be Safe Strategies for Internet and Social Media Safety

Avoid the Bad Guys

Phishing  Not trying to catch a bass or catfish  Trying to catch you

Avoid the Hook  Do not reply to s or pop-up messages that ask for personal or financial information.  Do not click on any links in these messages.  Do not personal or financial information.

Avoid the Hook  Be cautious about opening attachments or downloading files from s.  Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date.  Review credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them.

Avoid the Hook  Forward spam that is phishing for information to and to the company.  If you believe you’ve been scammed, file a complaint at ftc.gov, and then visit the FTC’s Identity Theft website.
