Interim activities are going smoothly – Annual Work Plan submitted to EPA June 1 st. – Leveraging and Habitat Improvement Reports are due Sept. 1 st. Requests for match and information will go out this week. – The Assateague Concessions (Beach Hut & Kayak Rentals) are open and doing very well. Check them out, you will be very pleased. Sandi MCBP – Carrie Samis left MCBP in late June, Harrison Jackson is has taken over education duties. The Coastal Stewards program is going well; 15 stewards including 3 team leaders. Projects include plantings at Bishopville, Berlin community garden, banding birds, interpretation & education at the state and national parks and at Castaways campground. An announcement to hire a new Education Coordinator will go out in the next few weeks. – Summer hires: Education Intern – Joanna Trojanowski/SU, Science Intern Kat Phillips/SU & UMES, Worcester County STEM Interns LuAnn Mottley/Pocomoke HS, Zainab Mizra /SDHS. Also we have been approved to host a Chesapeake Conservation Corps intern stating in September to work with volunteers and educators. – Grants have been submitted for 1. National SeaGrant: (MD/VA/DE) Stakeholder toolkit to engage vulnerable populations in Coastal Adaptation & Resiliency (ASERT) 2. SHA Grant for Trail Development at Wor. MCBP owes a HUGE thanks to everyone that took the time to provide input, edit and approve the 2015 – 2025 plan. 3 year process….. – More than 150 people provided comments, ideas, and edits. – Four day long workshops, multiple public presentations & meetings with partners, public input workshop, an online survey, and multiple iterations.
Four sections –same as before, more concise (from 505 actions down to 222 actions) and all actions support a clear deliverable for each section. CCMP SectionAll actions should support an overall endpoint/product Water Quality (54 actions) TMDL impairments & Nutrient Reduction Strategy Fish & Wildlife (99 actions) Expand the periodic Ecosystem Health Assessment to include terrestrial monitoring Recreation & Navigation (24 actions) Adopt and implement a Coastal Bays Sediment Management Plan Community & Economic Development (45 actions) Expand the periodic State of the Coastal Bays report to include social and economic indicators. Anticipate and plan for sea level rise and coastal resiliency.
