FAMILY FRACTIONS

Hi, we’re the Fifth Family. There are five people in our family.

There is one man in our family. 1 out of 5 of the people in our family is a man. That means that 1/5 (one-fifth) of our family is a man.

4 out of the 5 people in our family are girls. That means 4/5 (four-fifths) of our family are girls.

3 out of the 5 girls in our family are children. That means that 3/5 (three- fifths) of our family are children.

2 of the 5 people in our family are adults. That means that 2/5 (two-fifths) of our family are adults.

The Fifth Family has five pets.

1 of the 5 pets is a fish. That means that 1/5 (one-fifth) of the pets is a fish.

1 out of the 5 pets is a hamster. That means that 1/5 (one-fifth) of the pets is a hamster.

3 out of the 5 pets are cats. That means that 3/5 (three-fifths) of the pets are cats.
