10/8 Bell Ringer Step 1: Grab today’s material from front of room Step 2: GET OUT YOUR HOMEWORK! Step 3: Answer bell ringer below: (a)Identify the domain and range of the graph at right. (b)Is it a function? Why/Why Not? Homework: Inverse tables and graphs IP and FILL IN VOCABULARY

10/8 News and Notes Homework checked? HAND IN BELL RINGERS Quiz on Tuesday: Look over domain, range, whether something’s a function, inverse tables (today) and whether you can identify a linear, quadratic or exponential function. FILL IN YOUR VOCABULARY FROM NOTES!!!!

10/8 Agenda I CAN switch x and y values in a table to observe the inverse in a graph. 1.Bell Ringer 2.Intro to New Material – 2 examples 3.Guided Practice 4.Independent Practice

New Material – Example 1 Today we will investigate the inverse of a function. How do we do this? – Step 1: Graph original points and create graph. – Step 2: Switch x and y values (THIS GIVES US OUR INVERSE) – Step 3: Graph inverse values. This gives us our inverse function. – Step 4: Make a concluding observation.

 XY Step 1: Plot these points to get graph. Step 2: Switch x and y values (THIS IS THE INVERSE PART) Step 3: Graph inverse values. This gives us our inverse function. Step 4: Answer 2 concluding questions XY

 XY Question 1: What do you notice about the symmetry between the original graph and its inverse? Line y = x is the line of symmetry. Question 2: Is the inverse a function? YES! It passes the Vertical Line Test XY

 XY Step 1: Plot these points to get graph. Step 2: Switch x and y values (THIS IS THE INVERSE PART) Step 3: Graph inverse values. This gives us our inverse function. Step 4: Answer concluding question: Is inverse a function? XY

Each person gets graph paper Steps for completion: Draw coordinate plane (min value = -10, max = 10) Plot points from table: Switch x and y Draw line y = x on graph. Graph inverse (label all pts) Is the inverse a function? Write an explanation XY
