How to Help Your Child Survive and Excel in the Fourth Grade Overpark Elementary School Fourth Grade Teachers

How is the Fourth Grade Different? First Grade is where the students learn to read.. In the second grade, there is extensive review of 1 st Grade skills compounded with some new skills. Third grade is where they students learned all new subject matter and it is difficult In Fourth grade the learning goes more in depth as well as learning new subject matter. 4 th graders need to be responsible, organized, and independent. Students are responsible for recording their own homework assignments, etc.

How do I help my child with Reading? Key to being a good reader: READ Read aloud to your child or have your child read to you. While reading ask questions: What do you think will happen next? Why do you think he did that? How do you think that makes him feel? Practice 5 test questions from old reading tests each night.

How do I help my child with English? Practice the skills learned in English class. Write in a journal, write letters, send s, or just leave little notes for each other. Just write PROPERLY! Practice 5 test questions from old English tests each night. Create similar questions. REPETITION REPETITION

How do I help my child with Math? Learn multiplication facts! Know the facts! Review math rule book/math notes often. Practice the skills learned in everyday life. While at the grocery store: weigh the items, compare prices & determine the best price, make change. Practice 5 test questions from old math tests each night. Repetitive questions is a key to success so create similar questions.

Other ways to help my child: Study a little with them every night, not just nights that they have assignments. Check your child’s agenda every night and initial that you have seen it. Look over any written homework and help your child make corrections. SAVE ALL THEIR OLD TESTS!!! You may see some of the old test questions again. Practice 5 old test questions from each subject area each night. Especially in Reading, English, and Math!!!
