Championship Committee Championship Proposal v1.0

Purpose The Championship Committee tried to find a clear and sustainable solution to the ever-changing Belgian Championship formats and timings. We hope to have found some guidelines that could be used for the following 5 years. Afterwards, the formats and timings proposed should be re-evaluated because the Ultimate scenery might be changing again.

This presentation This presentation will only give a short overview about the proposed timings and formats for the championships. If you want to know more about the details and the motivations of these decisions, you are urged to read the accompanying word document.

Championship Calendar

Indoor Championships (1) Open and Mixed Qualifiers Format as it is now is working great. No need to change it 4 qualifier days Divisions of 5 teams Round Robin Top 2 teams rise a division, bottom 2 lower a division Points awarded based on division and placement The top 8 in Open and top 4 in Mixed after four qualifier weekends go to the finals weekend.

Indoor Championships (2) Women Qualifiers 1 qualifier day 4 teams qualify for the finals Depending on the amount of teams interested one or two pools In case of one pool Round Robin Top 4 qualify for finals weekend In case of two pools Round Robin in each pool # 1 of each pool qualifies directly # 2 and # 3 of each pool play a crossover to decide who can go to the finals weekend.

Indoor Championships (3) Finals Weekend If possible all finals at the same spot (2 fields needed) Open Division: Quarters, Semis, Finals Women Divison: Semis, Finals Mixed Division: Semis, Finals Proposed Schedule Semis Women Division (2 fields) 2 out of 4 quarters Open Division (2 fields) Small Finals Women Division (1 field) Finals Women Division (1 field) Semis Open Division 5 to 8 (2 fields) Semis Open Division (2 fields) Semis Mixed Division (2 fields) Placement Games Open Division 5 to 8 (2 fields) Small Finals Open/Mixed Division (2 fields) Finals Mixed Division (1 field) Finals Open Division (1 field)

Beach Championships There’s room for an extra Beach tournament in Belgium Split up the Belgian Beach Cup/Championship in 2 weekends 1 st weekend of September: Open (and Women?) division 2 nd weekend of September: Mixed division

Outdoor Championships (1) Biggest issues with the current format were With the growing Frisbee community, there are no places big enough to host all the divisions Very hard to change divisions, even if you are out-of-place where you are A lot of returning games, some of the teams had to face each other 3 times during one BUOC New format solved these issues Every division could be played at a different location, no cross-overs If you deserve to rise a divisions, you have now 6 games to prove it instead of 1 crucial game at the end of an exhausting tournament Teams won’t play the same team 3 times and will normally in the second weekend have games that are really interesting

Outdoor Championships (2) Schedule Hosting 1 Division Schedule Hosting 2 Divisions

Outdoor Championships (3) 1 st weekend Divisions of 7 teams (only lowest division can have other amount of teams) Round Robin Games of 60’, hard cap 15, Cap+1 if 0 or 1 point difference Ranking made up at the end of the weekend Based on the results of BUOC 2015, these would be the starting divisions in 2016

Outdoor Championships (4) 2 nd weekend The top 4 of the 1 st division have either the weekend off or they play 3 long games for double points against each others (like this year) All other teams are again put in divisions of 7 teams Teams ranked of division X will join teams of division X+1 Round Robin for placement in total ranking Teams that at the end of this weekend are ranked 5 th and 6 th in the total ranking will gain a ticket for the “Finals weekend” Divisions the year after are based on the “Finals Rankings” at the end of the BUOC

Outdoor Championships (5) Lower Divisions The format will depend on number of teams in this division 6 teams: Round Robin (5 games of 60’) + placement game 7 teams: Round Robin (6 games of 60’) 8 teams: Round Robin (7 games of 50’) 9 teams: Round Robin (8 games of 40’ or 45’) 10 teams: 2 pools of 5 teams Bottom two of each pool play crossovers and placement games Top 3 of each pool play pre-semis, semis and finals 8 teams play 6 games, 2 teams play 7 games 11 teams 2 pools, one of 5 teams, one of 6 teams # 1 and # 2 of each pool play crossover semis and finals # 3 and # 4 of each pool play crossover semis and finals The last 3 play form a mini-pool and play a triangle of games Pool games of 50’, placement games of 60’ 6 teams play 7 games, 5 teams play 6 games 12 teams 2 pools of 6 Crossover semis and finals Poule games of 50’, placement games of 60’ All teams play 7 games

Outdoor Championships (6) For the sake of example, let’s say that these were the rankings after the first weekend of BUOC. The divisions for the second weekend will then look like this

Outdoor Championships (7) BUOC Finals Presemis PS1: 6 th vs 3 rd (power pool) PS2: 5 th vs 4 th (power pool) Semis SF1: Win PS1 vs 2 nd (power pool) SF2: Win PS2 vs 1 st (power pool) Finals/Placement Games Loser PS1 vs Loser PS2 for places 5 and 6 Loser SF1 vs Loser SF2 for places 3 and 4 Win SF1 vs Win SF2 for places 1 and 2

Outdoor Championships (8) BUWOC Together with the finals weekend of the BUOC Depending on amount of teams Round Robin, Semis? and Finals 2 pools, pre-semis?, semis and finals If the number of teams grows significantly go to a two-weekend BUWOC with only the best teams at the finals weekend

Outdoor Championships (9) BUMOC Depending on amount of teams One or two days Round Robin, Semis? and Finals 2 pools, pre-semis?, semis and finals

Youth Championships Indoor U17 & U15 Outdoor U17 U15 (5 vs 5) One day championships
