PRAY WHILE WE WAIT Luke 18:1-8 Context Luke 17:20-37

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT During the period of time as we wait for our Lord to return, there are many situations, and circumstances that we encounter. They occur from all points of life, be they physical, mental, social, etc., but they do come.

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT During such periods many people lose their faith, and confidence in God and return to a world that they had left.

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT Enduring faith is needed in maintaining our determination, in carrying the mandate from our Lord as we await His coming.

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT The profuse application of this parable to prayer has almost hidden the more direct reference even while it is so precious – we must however, not allow that to obscure the direct intention of the Lord. Let us see what we find.

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT If we look keenly, we will see that the primary and historical reference of this parable is to the church in its widowed, desolate, oppressed, and defenseless condition during present absence of her Lord in the heavens. (Luke 17:20-25; Luke 18:3)

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT That in these circumstances, importunate, persevering prayer for deliverance is the Church’s fitting or best exercise. (Luke 18:1-5; Romans 8:22-27; John 14:17-21)

PRAY WHILE WE WAIT Notwithstanding every encouragement to the effect, as long as the answer is delayed, and the need for relief continues the same. The hope of deliverance is dissipating, and “faith” in the coming of Christ is almost gone. (Luke 18:6-8, Songs of Solomon 8:13,14; Rev. 22:20;)
