Stefan Thorvaldsson –

What is a network? A network is two or more computer linked together so the are able to share resources. It could be a printer, scanner, folder, software or even a connection to the Internet. You can also share data using a network. For example, a database could be accessed from any of the computers connected to the network.

Stefan Thorvaldsson – Key concepts The key components Advantage and disadvantage The Use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Communication methods Differences between LAN and WAN

Stefan Thorvaldsson – WAN Wide Area Network Covers wide geographical area In lot of buildings, countries or/and cities Uses more expensive links owned by telecommunication companies More expensive LAN Local Area Network Small area Usually located in the same building Uses cable, wire-less usually owned by organization Less expensive to build

Stefan Thorvaldsson – Disadvantage Might need a network manager Security problems Viruses Breakdown problems Initial costs of equipment Disadvantage Might need a network manager Security problems Viruses Breakdown problems Initial costs of equipment Advantage You can share printers, scanners, folders, Internet Connection and more Central Back Up Speed Access to central data Advantage You can share printers, scanners, folders, Internet Connection and more Central Back Up Speed Access to central data

Stefan Thorvaldsson – Bus network Star network Tree network How computers link to each other in a network

Stefan Thorvaldsson – Wi-fi Enables computers and other devices to communicate wirelessly with each other. Most known as get connected to the Internet. Bluetooth Is a wireless technology to exchange data over a short distance. Can be used up to 100m depending on the strenght of the signal. Network LAN WAN Bandwidth WLAN

Stefan Thorvaldsson – Internet A huge group of networks working together. Each network consists a lot of smaller networks. Connected to the Internet you’re a part of the largest network in the world. ISP Web Internet
