What is Web 2.0?  the term Web 2.0 is asociated with:  information sharing  interoperability  user-centered design  collaboration  not exist fixed definition “Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform. Chief among those rules is this: Build applications that harness network effects to get better the more people use them. Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0

Technology overview I  web 2.0 draws together the capabilities of client- and server-side software  content syndication and the use of network protocols  standards-oriented web browsers may use plug-ins and software extensions to handle the content and the user interactions  web 2.0 sites provide users with information storage, creation, and dissemination capabilities

Technology overview II  features and techniques:  search (finding information through keyword search)  links (connects information together into a meaningful information ecosystem using the model of the web, and provides low-barrier social tools)  authoring (the ability to create and update content leads to the collaborative work of many rather than just a few web authors. In wikis, users may extend, undo and redo each other's work. In blogs, posts and the comments of individuals build up over time)  tags (categorization of content by users adding "tags" - short, usually one- word descriptions = to facilitate searching, without dependence on pre- made categories. Collections of tags created by many users within a single system may be referred to as "folksonomies)  extensions (software that makes the Web an application platform as well as a document server)  signals (the use of syndication technology such as RSS to notify users of content changes)

How it works  typically technologies:  AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML)  Adobe Flash and the Adobe Flex framework  JavaScript/Ajax frameworks such as Yahoo! UI Library, Dojo Toolkit, MooTools, and jQuery  DOM  PHP, Ruby, ColdFusion, Perl, Python, JSP and ASP  server site (are used to dynamically output data using informations from files and DB)  typically format of data: JSON, XML  to share data with other sites  to communication between client - server

Ajax  ajax isn't a technology. It's really several technologies, each flourishing in its own right, coming together in powerful new ways. Ajax incorporates:  standards-based presentation using XHTML and CSS;  dynamic display and interaction using the Document Object Model;  data interchange and manipulation using XML and XSLT;  asynchronous data retrieval using XMLHttpRequest;  and JavaScript binding everything together.

Core competencies of Web 2.0  services, not packaged software, with cost-effective scalability  control over unique, hard-to-recreate data sources that get richer as more people use them  trusting users as co-developers  harnessing collective intelligence  leveraging the long tail through customer self-service  software above the level of a single device  lightweight user interfaces, development models, and business models
