iLearn Elementary Science Session 6 Virtual Science Fair Enhancing Virtual Science Fair Projects with Files and Wikispaces Widgets

Focusing Questions  How can documents, pictures, graphs, etc. be added to a wikispace?  What are Widgets and how can they be used to enhance a virtual science project?

Instruction

Framing The Session In our last session, we set up templates for students to use to populate their wikispaces with the information needed to complete a virtual science fair. But what if we want to add more to our project. What if students want to add files, graphs, images, or maps? What if they want to track where people come from who visit their space? What if they want to add a poll to their space? All of these can be done virtually with a wikispace!

Teaching Step 1: Download the Reference Guide and Photo. Step 2: Open your wikispaces and click on Edit this Page. Step 3: Find the picture button on the text editor menu. Step 4: Browse, select, and upload the photo. Step 5: Place your cursor where you want the file to be, then double click the file.

Guided Practice Step 1: Download the Reference Guide and Photo. Step 2: Open your wikispaces and click on Edit this Page. Step 3: Find the picture button on the text editor menu. Step 4: Browse, select, and upload the photo. Step 5: Place your cursor where you want the file to be, then double click the file. Step 6: Repeat the process for the reference guide document.

Work Time

Getting Started Widgets are extras that you can add to your space to give it something extra. On the resource page there are a few websites that host free widgets that you can add to your wikispace.

Work Time Step 1: Explore the Widget button and the different options. Step 2: Explore the Google Widget buttons. Step 3: Create at least one widget for their wikispace. Step 4: If time permits, look for other widgets online.
