Green Chemistry By Courtney Smith 10 Orange

What Is Green Chemistry??  Green chemistry is a design and process of safer chemicals to eliminate the use of hazardous substances.  Green chemistry relies on 12 principles that are used to re-design or design molecules.

12 Principles 1. Prevent waste 2. Design safer chemicals 3. Find safer ways to make synthetic products 4. Maximise atom economy (convert the maximum quantity of reactants to products, with few side-products) 5. Use safer solvents 6. Use renewable reactants (avoid use of reactants such as those derived from petroleum)

12 Principles 1. Maximise energy efficiency 2. Avoid chemical derivatives 3. Use catalysts whenever possible 4. Design biodegradable products 5. Use real-time analysis to prevent pollution 6. Minimise the potential for accidents

Eastman Chemical Company This company has used Green Chemistry to create cosmetic products that are safer for the environment to make and use. The process to make the cosmetics improves on the cost and quantity. The Green Chemistry Principles: 1. Prevent waste 2. Design safer chemicals 3. Use safer solvents

Benefits To The Company And Others Company Benefits:  Safer to make  Less chemicals  More products are made  Cheaper to make yet just as good as other products Buyer Benefits:  Safer to use on the skin  Biodegradable  Cheaper to buy but the quality is the same.
