Final Project: Body Systems Due: Fri by 4:00pm Purpose: Create a children’s book (5 th grade level reading) describing the importance of one of the 11 body systems. Goal: Identify how your body system functions. Identify the organs that make up your body system and their function. Identify other body systems your body system interacts with to help keep the body functioning properly.

Identify how your body system functions. Cover page - Creative story book title, illustrations, name, due date, and period. Pages 1-5 – Introduce your body system and describe its role in maintaining homeostasis. DUE: Thurs May 17 by 4:00pm

Identify the organs that make up your body system and their function. Pages 6-10 – Tell which organs make up your body system. The function of each structure should be explained in simple terms (no book definitions). Provide pictures and/or illustrations for each of the organs. DUE: Tues May 22 by 4:00pm

Identify other body systems your body system interacts with to help keep the body functioning properly. Pages11- 20– describe what other body system(s) your system interacts with. Describe the type of interaction that takes place and why this interaction is necessary. Provide pictures and/or illustrations to show interactions (label where necessary). DUE: Fri May 25 by 4:00pm

Bonus: Identify one disease that affects your system Pages Name the disease and describe the symptoms caused by the disease. Describe how the disease affects your body system. Identify if its caused by a bacteria or virus. Describe the duration (how long it last) Describe how the disease can be treated. Provide helpful pictures/illustrations.

Bibliography: research must include at lease 3 references including one book (e-books may be used). This will be the last page of your book. Must cite all resources you used to get information for your book. See examples below For a Web site: For a book: Fradin, Dennis. Your Book must be at least 10 pages and no more than 25. No pages should contain only pictures! ALL completed books must be bound and submitted by 4pm Monday May 31, 2012 Reminder: This is a Children's Story BOOK explaining how your selected body system maintains homeostasis, what components make up the system and how each function, what is the importance of your system, and how it interacts with other body systems It MUST be a BOOK written in STORY format! It has to be creative but able to be understood by the average 5 th grader. Your book must be written in your own words. Any terms must be simplified (NO BOOK DEFINITIONS). Pictures must have words, No page should be pictures only!
