Lesson 10: Electricity review & energy types Objectives: Review circuits, magnetism, electricity Types energy Transfer between types of energy

Review Draw examples of series and parallel circuits. Label all symbols What are the symbols for amps and voltage? How are they measured? What do they mean? How do they change in each type of circuit? What do magnets have around them? How do we know this? What does it look like? How do you make a magnet? Why did some of the electromagnets over heat? How could you prevent this? Why do you need to use insulated wire? A iron nail instead of steel? Which metals are good conductors? Why? What is resistance? How does it affect a circuit?

Energy makes things happen! 10.1a What is energy? Energy makes things happen!

All living things need energy to... 10.1a What is energy? All living things need energy to... live reproduce grow

10.1a What is energy? All living things get their energy from food. Food has a store of energy called chemical energy. Fuels like coal, charcoal, gas, oil, diesel and petrol also have stores of chemical energy.

Energy is needed for everything we do 10.1a What is energy? Energy is needed for everything we do

Make a table in your notebook: Fill in the table as you move through the centres. Activity Energy form in Energy form out (the energy we use) Any other energy? Burning candle Chemical (in the wax) Light (in the flame) Heat (in the flame)

Yes Basic body functions (breathing, heart pumping) use energy 10.1a Traffic light cards We can use energy even if we are asleep Yes Basic body functions (breathing, heart pumping) use energy

10.1a Traffic light cards All energy is stored energy No Chemical energy is often a store but kinetic, heat and light energy are almost never stores of energy

Yes All living things need energy 10.1a Traffic light cards

10.1a Traffic light cards Stored energy is changed into only one form No Our candle used chemical (stored) energy and produced heat and light energy

10.1a Traffic light cards Is electricity a form of energy? Yes Electricity has electrical energy which moves energy from one place (e.g. a battery) to another (e.g. a torch bulb)
