It is a perfect place of joy in the presence of God that is free from sin forever; it is described with physical characteristics. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’”Revelation 21:1-4

It is a place of punishment for those who have not believed in Jesus Christ and His forgiveness. “Then He (God, the King) will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’” Matthew 25:41

All the dead will be brought back to life (resurrected) and judged. “But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:13 “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Daniel 12:2
