Goals of eLearning Planning Guide Reduce planning time and effort Increase eLearning effectiveness through targeted improvement Guide and support innovative and transformative use of eLearning Integrate eLearning into School Strategic Planning documentation Develop a plan that supports School and system-wide initiatives and funding submissions

History of DEECD eLearning Planning Mandated planning Recommended planning Regional planning Integration with school strategic planning Supporting Ultranet Readiness

Background to the eLearning planning framework….. Clearly defined elements of eLearning Defined phases of development Incremental target setting, measurement and evaluation Other States & Territories Collaboration MCEETYA – Digital Education: making change happen BECTA – The Matrix

The eLearning Planning Matrix 4 phases of development Foundation Beginning the eLearning journey Established practices & resources support eLearning implementation eLearning innovation is embedded in the school culture eLearning transforms learning and teaching and is evident through wider school Change Emergent Innovative Transformative

How do we know that our eLearning plan will be successful and lead to greater student learning and school transformation? Find an established, conceptual framework that clearly addresses effective learning for school planning Create an eLearning ‘overlay’ to guide the use of ICT in an effective schools framework Develop a Professional Learning Strategy that supports the framework

The eLearning Matrix

The eLearning Matrix (…cont)

Planning Options A separate eLearning plan –A complete document that supports the annual School Implementation Plan which stems from School Strategic Plan. Choose this because: –ICT is a large financial investment –eLearning can be a catalyst for School Transformation –ICT is part of 21 st Century Learning

Planning Options (…cont) Integrated eLearning into Strategic Planning –Review or amend existing Strategic Plan and annual School Implementation Plan to ensure each eLearning area is recognised and planned for

Relationships with School Planning Self Evaluation Guidelines School Accountability and Improvement Framework eLearning Considerations Strategic Plan Annual Implementation Plan Consider eLearningfocus questions Include strategies for eLearning Include milestones for eLearning eLearning Documentation Develop eLearning “Implementation Plan” eLearning “audit”: Is eLearning sufficiently Included in school planning? Not as yet Supports the

Planning Process 1.Review your vision 2.Plot your school on the matrix 3.Identify your current practice 4.Identify your target practice 5.Develop key strategies, actions, resources, budget, responsibilities and timelines 6.Complete SIPS and identify required IT infrastructure to support 7.Implement and review plan

What’s Happening at Your School? Specialist program? Classroom programs? IT specific subjects? Discuss at tables Your role in leading development in these areas

The Planning Template Element Key Strategy Current Practice Target Practice Actions What? Resources/ budget How? Responsibilities Who? Timeline When? Achievement Milestone Learning Places & Spaces School eLearning Vision

1. Review your Vision Example: To inspire and empower our School’s learning community to envision and implement innovative eLearning strategies and technologies to improve student engagement, experience and achievement.

2. Plot your school on the matrix

3. & 4. Write in your current and target practice

5. Develop key strategies, actions, resources, budget, responsibilities and timelines

6. Complete SIPS and identify required IT infrastructure to support

The eLearning Vision The eLearning Vision will provide a direction for where your School is going in relation to ICT for learning. Your Vision should be a desired outcome that inspires, energises and helps you create a mental picture of your target and a compelling picture of what ICT can enable

Creating your eLearning Vision… Consider: How will learning and teaching have changed and how will ICT support this change? What type of learning environment would you see? How will learning take place? What will your students expectations of learning be? What will each student know, value and be able to do when they leave your school?

Notes on eLearning Vision Your eLearning vision must emanate from your Strategic Plan. Review your School Profile and Values from your Strategic Plan to help form a basis. Ensure that your eLearning vision is a clear and succinct statement that is easily understood. Ideally it needs to be shared and owned by all of the members of your School Community, including teachers, students and parents
