QUALITY CONTROL OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS (Water) by K. RAMESH Research Officer, Engineering Materials Laboratory, A.P. Engineering Research Laboratories, Himayatsagar, HYDERABAD

Water for concrete Water used for mixing and curing of concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amounts of oils, acids, alkalis, salts, sugar, organic materials and other substances that may be deleterious to concrete or steel. Potable water is generally considered satisfactory for concrete.

Tests on water Neutralization Organic solids Inorganic solids Sulphates Chlorides Suspended matter pH value

Permissible limits for solids in water S.No.ParticularsTested as perPermissible limit, Max 1.OrganicIS:3025(P.18)200mg/l 2.InorganicIS:3025(P.18)3000mg/l 3.SulphatesIS:3025(P.24)400mg/l 4.ChloridesIS:3025(P.32)2000mg/l for PCC 500mg/l for RCC 5.Suspended matter IS:3025(P.17)200mg/l

pH value pH value of water shall not be less than 6.
