Current Status of Development 3Dimensional Engineering –Straight Blade Impeller –Inlet Guide Vane American Hofmann –Two curved blade impellers for balancing Data Acquisition –Ordering Instrumentation –Building a collector that will funnel flow down to the flowmeter

Current Status of Development Transparent Inlet Guide Vane –Company and Quote –Use to determine areas of separation throughout flow path and compare to the CFD simulation –Assist the design of the four stage impellers Blank Shaft –Machined and ready for testing bearing losses

Straight Blade Impeller –Designed for comparison with the complex curved blade design Compare efficiencies Simpler to manufacture Stronger – no casting voids Better initial balancing Inlet Guide Vane –Designed to fit the blade tips more accurately than the current design Parts are due on June 13th Parts Being Machined (3Dimensional Engineering)

Straight Blade Impeller Model Similar blade shape except there is no undercutting on the straight blade design

Sent best two of the three impellers to get balanced. –Balanced to a g-level equivalent to 150,000 rpm –Material will have to be removed from two planes in order to reskew the axis of the hub to the axis of the shaft Balancing Status (American Hofmann)

Purpose of Blank Shaft Blank shaft (no hub nor blades) machined for use in determining the power loss in the bearings –Run motor without any attachments and record power supplied to motor. –Assemble entire unit with blank shaft and operate at 150,000 rpm and record power supplied to motor.

Future of Compressor Development Order backup motor Measure bearing losses Balance straight blade impeller Test cast impeller at low speeds Test straight blade impeller at low speeds Compare results of curved straight blade impellers
