Holiness Is from God

“In Louisville, at the corner of Fourth and Walnut, in the center of the shopping district, I was suddenly overwhelmed with the realization that I loved all those people, that they were mine and I theirs, that we could not be alien to one another even though we were total strangers ….There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun.” The Seven Story Mountain Holiness Is from God

Holy Q. What about members of Church who aren’t holy? A. One should avoid judging members of any organization by those who are lax, disinterested, or who don’t attend the meetings or live by its values. Look instead to the lives of those sincerely devoted, such as: Francis & Clare of Assisi Teresa of Avila & John of the Cross John de Brebeuf & Isaac Jogues Edith Stein & Maximillian Kolbe Thomas More and John Fisher Damien of Molokai & Padre Pio Thomas Merton & John Paul II Franz Jägerstätter & Oscar Romero Maria Gorretti & Elizabeth Seton Katherine Drexil & Brother Andre Holy Tracing the Church’s Holiness

Each and every day the Catholic Church … feeds more people houses more people clothes more people visits more imprisoned people takes care of more sick people, and educates more people … than any other organization on the planet. Ways the Church is Holy

(Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1547) The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and priests, and the common priesthood of all the faithful participate, "each in its own proper way, in the one priesthood of Christ." While being "ordered one to another," they differ essentially. In what sense? While the common priesthood of the faithful is exercised by the unfolding of baptismal grace --a life of faith, hope, and charity, a life according to the Spirit--, the ministerial priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood. It is directed at the unfolding of the baptismal grace of all Christians. The ministerial priesthood is a means by which Christ unceasingly builds up and leads his Church. For this reason it is transmitted by its own sacrament, the sacrament of Holy Orders. (Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1547) Holy Ways the Church is Holy

Holy Canonized Saints: Models of Holiness

Canonized Saints: Models of Holiness Five Steps in the Canonization of a Saint Path A – Martyrs: Their death witnessed to their faith. No miracles needed. Step 1: Local Diocese Petitions the Vatican Step 4: Blessed A person is deemed to be interceding on our behalf, as he or she enjoys the beatific vision of God in heaven. Step 3: Venerable The Vatican declares that the person lived a life of heroic virtue. Path B - Confessors: Their lives witnessed to their faith. One miracle needed. Step 5: Saint The Pope decrees a person to be a saint normally after at least on miracle for martyrs or a second a second one for confessors. Step 2: Servant of God A declaration by the Vatican that allows the cause for sainthood to proceed. Canonized Saints: Models of Holiness

Five Steps for a Good Confession 1. Examine your conscience. 2. Be sincerely sorry for your sins. 3. Confess your sins. 4. Resolve to amend your life. 5. After your confession, do the penance the priest assigns.  Act of Contrition “O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.” Canonized Saints: Models of Holiness
