Jesus Christ is exalted in glory Lesson 8

Exaltation = Being lifted up; entering glory

1. Descended into hell 2. Rose from the dead 3. Ascended into heaven 4. Sits at God’s right hand 5. Will come again as judge Jesus’ Exaltation

1 Peter 3:18-19 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison...

Jesus Descended into Hell When? –After his death and becoming alive again

Colossians 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Jesus Descended into Hell When? –After his death and becoming alive again Why? –To proclaim to the devil He had won the victory

Jesus Rose from the Dead Matthew 28:1-8 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: `He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Romans 1:4 John 2:19 Who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

Jesus Rose from the Dead This assures us that: 1He is God and what He says is true

Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Jesus Rose from the Dead This assures us that: 1He is God and what He says is true 2We are completely redeemed and justified

John 14:19 John 11:25-26 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

Jesus Rose from the Dead This assures us that: 1He is God and what He says is true 2We are completely redeemed and justified 3We will also rise bodily from the dead

John 14:2-3 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Jesus Ascended into Heaven 1To assure us of a prepared heavenly home

Acts 1:9-11 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

Jesus Ascended into Heaven 1To assure us of a prepared heavenly home 2To assure us he will come back the same way he went

How can we rejoice even though Jesus is gone? Matthew 28:20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (NIV) And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV)

Jesus Sits at God’s Right Hand (the position of POWER AND AUTHORITY)

Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Jesus now sits at God’s right hand 1As our High Priest he intercedes for us as we pray

Luke 10:16 "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

Jesus now sits at God’s right hand 1As our High Priest he intercedes for us as we pray 2As our Prophet he guides us with his Word

Ephesians 1:20-23 [The mighty power] which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus now sits at God’s right hand 1As our High Priest he intercedes for us as we pray 2As our Prophet he guides us with his Word 3As our King he rules all things for our good

Revelation 1:5b-6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
