Quick Background Check Shakespeare was born in… A B C D

CORRECT!! Bravo! I was born in 1564 in Stratford England Dost thou still feel lucky? Test thy fate by clicking on my face.

Alas, not the correct choice Never fear dear noble challenger. Thou still hast another chance. Click on thy face to take thee back to the question.

Performance Space It is said that the Red Bull was the first real theater in 1567 on the outskirts of London. When the actors wanted their own theater, what came next, the Theatre or the Globe? The TheatreThe Globe

Can’t Trick you! Aha! Thou art very intelligent. The Theater was built on a farm outside of London, but because we had to pay rent on it, we took it down piece by piece in the middle of the night and re-built it with the same wood on the south side of London. We renamed it The Globe. But in reality The Theater and the Globe are the same thing! Bravo! Click on thy face to continue Here’s a peak at the Globe today. The original globe burnt in 1623 but was rebuilt years later

Taking a Look into his work Richard III Richard III fights alongside his family against another family in the trilogy of Henry VI. Which family does Richard belong to? –Here’s a hint, think of the war of the roses, White vs. Red. Choose a name from the scroll below. York Lancaster

Correct! Give thyself a round of applause Excellent! Twas a tricky play to write, having two royal families dueling through four plays (the Henry VI triology and Richard III) I can’t seem to fool thou, continue on by clicking on my face.

A Mid Summer Night’s Dream In the play, Shakespeare writes a character who talks about what it is to be a good actor, named Bottom. Who was this character designed after? A. King George B. William Shakespeare C. Richard Burbach D. Nicholas Roe

Correct as Usual! Oh, Richard Burbach, what an interesting man. The top actor in England in my time, thought of himself as the “only actor” in London. Bottom has a loveable arrogant side which takes true talent to portray, hence the casting of Burbach. A Mid Summers Night Dream is an excellent play, if I may so myself Thou shouldst know the drill by now. Click on thy face to continue.

Hamlet When Hamlet says the following line “I am but mad north west…I can tell a hawk from a handsaw” he is talking about what? A. carpentry B. murder C. misunderstanding D. poor acting

Thou Can’t be Fooled! Thou art on the ball! I used the line “I can tell a hawk from a handsaw” because during Elizabethan time, emotions on stages were acted out by gestures, two of which being the hawk and handsaw which were considered poor acting. Hamlet uses this to say he can tell when someone is lying, or putting on a show.

Thou needs to think again. That is not correct, but thou should think about Elizabethan times and what “Hawk” and “handsaw” represent. Click on thy face to try again

Thou art a Shakespeare Scholar! Aha! Thou have proven thyself in the academic arena. Tis a very noble task fair contender. Dost thou have any questions? Prepare thyself for thy next unit. If thou art done, press thine escape key!
