1. Pick five stocks Not every company offers stocks Companies that offer stocks are “publicly owned” by the stock-holders. Privately owned companies do not offer stocks.

1. Pick five stocks You may pick your stocks from the S&P 500 list or by searching Yahoo! Finance. S&P 500Yahoo! Finance Click on one to see the website Type company name here Write down the symbol for each company that you decide upon. You will need this symbol to look up your stock prices.

2. Buy your stocks. Link to Yahoo! Finance on the internet.Yahoo! Finance Type in the symbol for your stock. When the page for the stock is up, scroll down and look for the “historical prices” link on the left side of the screen.

Historical Prices

You will need to go back 30 days in history to follow the progress of your stock since you won’t be in Economics long enough to follow it daily. Use the same start date for each of your stocks. Use as much of your $ as possible. The closing cost is the price you write under “purchase price” on your worksheet. Closing Price

3. Research your stocks Use the tracking sheet to record the closing costs for your stocks. Follow the stock history for 30 days. If one of your stocks begins to fall (lose value), you might want to sell it and buy another company’s stock. Use the Stock Replacement Form to record stocks you sell and buy. Each day’s transaction costs you $ Remember, you want to make money!
