My Countries population of nearly 87 million is growing 1.3 percent annually. The capital is Tehran. It has 12 million inhabitants. Some major cities are Mashhad, Tabriz, Esfahan, Abadan, and Shiraz. About 68 percent live in urban areas. More than 10 percent is nomadic or seminomadic.

My Country just larger than Alaska, covers an area of 636,372 square miles. Most of this territory belongs to a central desert plateau 4,000 feet above sea level. The Zagros Mountains dominate west Iran, while the Elbruze are found in the north. Mount Damavand, the highest peak at 18,606 feet. The nations diverse terrain gives it a variety of climates.

The area present-day Iran, known anciently as Persia, was ruled in the sixth century BC by such powerful emperors Darius and Cyrus the great. Arabs conquered the area in the seventh century, introducing the people to Islam. In 2004 elections, conservative candidates regained the majority in its legislature after the powerful Council of Guardians banned more than 2,500 reformist candidates from running for office. Reformist groups urged voters to boycott the polls, dropping voter turnout to less than 50 percent.

Hi my name is Habiby Mitchell I am 7. I live in Iran. I am on the left and my 9 year old brother fiffa Mitchell is on the right. We are very poor, usually we eat once every 2 to 3 days. We hunt and my mom cooks and cleans our father died while in war. So ever since we had to work 3 times as hard as we usually did but we are not the poorest. I always had a dream to one day come to America, well a boy can always dream Can he. x HabibyMitchell

My country is the world's most populous Shi ʿ i Muslim. About 89 percent of Iranians are Shi ʿ i Muslims, while some 9 percent are Sunni Muslims. Shi ʿ i Islam is the state religion and has been since the 1500s. All Muslims believe in a day of judgment and a single God who chose Muhammad to be his prophet. The Qur ʾ an, the scripture of Islam, is composed of Allah's revelations to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel.

Proper etiquette during greetings is considered essential in Iran. A handshake is customary. To show respect, one gives a slight bow or nod while shaking hands. A man does not shake a woman's hand unless she offers it first. People generally stand when someone enters the room for the first time and when someone leaves. Shaking hands with a child shows respect for the parents.

My midday meal is the most important meal of the day. Dinner usually is served after 8 p.m. Elaborate Persian meals are often prepared for guests, and a host may insist they eat several helpings. Hosts usually offer tea to guests. During Ramadan Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk; in the evenings, families and friends get together to eat and visit.

The family unit is strong in Iran and provides its members with a sense of identity, security, and social organization. Large families Like mine with many children, especially boys, have been traditionally preferred. The elderly are respected and cared for by younger members of the extended family. Regardless of their age, unmarried persons live with their parents until they marry.

Religious festivals are set according to the lunar calendar. However, official public holidays are determined by the solar calendar. The Iranian New Year is celebrated around the end of March in connection with the spring equinox. Iranians usually mark the New Year with visits, gifts, and feasts. Businesses close during this time and the celebrations last four days.
