GRAPHICS EQUIPMENT

Tasks Using a piece of A3 paper make a mind map of all the piece of graphics equipment that you can think of. Write down the name of the piece of equipment, what it is used for and any safety precautions. Check yourself exam questions

CRAFT KNIFE – cutting thin sheet material. Use with safety ruler and cutting mat. What do I know about Graphics equipment? SET SQUARES – to draw lines at 30, 60, 90 and 45 degrees. Often used with a drawing board.

BASIC EQUIPMENT Drawing board Set squares Protractor Compasses Rule Pencils Pens Templates Erasers Colouring media

DRAWING BOARD Parallel motion boards, used commonly in schools, parallel lines and angles using other equipment Drawing board and T square, you can remove the T square for informal drawing Adjustable drawing boards Lightweight, easy to carry and store

SET SQUARES Used in conjunction with the drawing board to draw vertical lines and lines at an angle. There are 2 sorts of set squares 30°/60° and a 45°/45°

PROTRACTOR Used to measure angles from 0° - 180°/360°

COMPASESS Used to draw a range of arcs and circles

RULE 300mm rule graduated into mm

PENCILS Range from 8B(soft) to 9H(hard). B=blackness of lead H=hardness of lead F=fine lead Most common for you to use in schools is 2B for sketching and 2H for lightweight drawings.

PENS Hollow/tubular nib which allows the ink to flow on contact with the paper Most useful nib sizes are 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5mm

TEMPLATES Used to simply draw circles, isometric circles, human body. French curves and flexible curves

ERASERS Erasing shield Putty rubber

COLOURING Coloured pencils Watercolour pencils Markers Watercolours Airbrushes and spray paint

Craft knife Safety ruler Cutting mat Guillotine Hot glue gun Scissors
