Project Objectives Create modularized tools for CareLink Scorecard Automation of tools for easy usability and portability To align the CareLink enrollment statistics reported by business, with those reported by the PE team. Stretch goal: Extend the tool to report time trend of PDF requests

Project Timeline This is the timeline that was used to complete the major reporting tool. Each week is calculated as five working days. Requirement - 1 day Analysis - 1 week Prototype - 2 weeks Design - 2 weeks Implementation - 3 weeks Testing - 1 week Documentation - 4 days Total Time: 10 weeks

Importance of Project The reporting tool created was a re-engineering of an existing tool used within the company. The purpose of this tool was to create a daily PDF report from data that was processed after being retrieved from a database. Each report consisted of charts showing statistical transmission data from the various monitoring devices that were surgically implanted into patients. These reports are used by other members in the department to help with the analysis of the performance of the processing of these transmissions.

Benefits of the Tool The benefits of the re-engineered tool includes: Easier to maintain and upgrade Reduce the time required to create a report Improve the efficiency of the report creating process Modularize the process used to create the reports

Resources Internet – This is the most used resource. An extensive amount of time was spent researching information that would aid in designing the project. Human – This is the second most used resource. My mentor as well as other members within the company provided assistance where needed. Books – A number of books were borrowed from people within the company. Some books were also purchased from local bookstores. Tranining – No training was done for this project.

Results The major report generating tool was completed by the end of the internship. An administrator’s guide was also created, detailing the functionality and dependencies of the tool. Upon leaving, this tool was being used in the place of the older tool. There were also a number of smaller report generating tools to be created. However, due to time constraints, the major tool was completed at the sacrifice of the smaller tools.

Experiences & Lessons Learned Gained a better understanding of what it is like to work in a corporate environment Improved my skills Java as well as learned new skills such as Perl and C# Learned new time management techniques Improved my ability to make good judgments Learned that a good analysis of a project saves a lot of time in design and rework.

Challenges Working with tools of which I had little to no prior experience. ( Perl, C#, etc.) Understanding and making modifications to existing report generating tools, and open source tools Poor documentation on some tools used throughout the project, as well as other tools that were researched

Internship Structure Orientation Seminars Presentations by Full-Time Employees and Interns Training Many Social Events Performance Evaluation Exit Interview
