10 God of Wonders – Acts of Creation Day 4

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years. 15 They will be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth.” And it was so.. Genesis 1:14-19

16 God made the two great lights—the greater light to have dominion over the day and the lesser light to have dominion over the night—as well as the stars. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth,

18 to dominate the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 Evening came, and then morning: the fourth day.

DAY 4 God created… Planetary Orbit, Gravitational pull, Stars, Moon & Sun He made them and placed them in motion and order… He is a God of Wonders!

GOD OF WONDERS CREATION: “Blind faith could not possibly account for the wonderful uniformity that was demonstrated by the planetary movements. Gravity may put the planets in motion, but without the divine power it could never put them into such a circulating motion as they have.” Isaac Newton

GOD OF WONDERS CREATION: Every other planet but the earth has an elliptical orbit around the sun. The earth has a circular orbit of 93 million miles around the sun which enables the earth to sustain biological life.

GOD OF WONDERS If the earth was not perfectly placed in its exact location we could have varying temperatures ranging from –70 degrees to 860 degrees. The earth is inclined 23 o which keeps the North and South poles from becoming too cold and keeps the temperatures moderate at the equator. Without this tilt life could not be sustained on planet earth.

GOD OF WONDERS The rotation of the Earth is 1,002 miles per hour. If our planet did not rotate at such a rate the earth would face the sun for too long of a period of time and no vegetation would survive. And the side facing away from the sun would be too cold to sustain life.

DAY 4 God knew… When He placed the… Stars, Moon, Sun, Planets What He was doing… He is a God of Wonders!

God’s Good Gifts From Day 4: Reminders Worship Light

REMINDERS “They (luminaries) will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years.”

REMINDERS Signs – indicators through which God conveys information and reveals Himself. Seasons – this would refer to the festivals and religious feasts…perhaps also the 4 seasons we know. Calendar – the positions of the celestial bodies help form the foundation of the calendar we use.

REMINDERS How important are reminders to God? They refused to listen and did not remember Your wonders You performed among them. Nehemiah 9:17 (HCSB)

REMINDERS Moses said, “Remember this day…for the Lord brought you out of here by the strength of [His] hand” Exodus 13:3 (HCSB) Remember to dedicate the Sabbath day: Exodus 20:8 (HCSB) Remember the wonderful works He has done… 1 Chronicles 16:12 (HCSB) Remember His covenant forever… 1 Chronicles 16:15 (HCSB)

REMINDERS God placed the Luminaries in place as a reminder of His power, majesty, glory, creation and much more! The Luminaries point us to the God of creation! He lights up the skies!

WORSHIP “Then God said… God made… God placed…And God saw that it was good.”

WORSHIP Ancients worshipped the Luminaries! Today we have we worship the luminaries through horoscopes! God is declaring that the sun, moon, and stars are not cosmic deities worthy of reverence, but He alone is!

WORSHIP You alone are the Lord. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, the heavenly host worships You and the heavenly host worships You. Nehemiah 9:6 (HCSB)

WORSHIP declare the glory The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands… Psalms 19:1 (HCSB)

WORSHIP The luminaries demonstrate the Majesty of God. He set them in place by His fingertips and they attest to Him as the Creator! This is a declaration that Israel’s God is the God that rules the heavens and the earth.

LIGHT “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth… to separate light from darkness. ”

LIGHT God placed the Luminaries (Lights) in the expanse. God formed the Sun & the Moon. The Luminaries have a practical purpose to separate light from darkness.

LIGHT Spiritual meaning: God does not want us to live in darkness! “I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness.” John 12:46 (HCSB)

LIGHT For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8 (HCSB)
