How are fossils formed? Photos from

What we know… Paleontologists and Archeologists study fossils Scientists have different ideas of how dinosaurs became extinct Fossils are – remains of living things that died many years ago – made of stone/rock

First…The Dinosaur Dies and washes into a river or swamp.

Second… The flesh rots and mud or sand covers its skeleton

Third… Over time, the mud and skeleton turn into stone/rock.

Fourth… The dinosaur is hidden for millions of years. As the Earth changes, the dinosaur moves closer to the surface.

Fifth… The dinosaur fossil is found by archeologists.

Sixth… Many different scientists study the fossil to find out… - what kind of dinosaur it is - what it ate - where it lived - how old it is -how it died

Can you remember how dinosaurs turn into fossils? Steps: 1. Cut out all the pieces 2. What happens first? 3. What happens in the middle? 4. What comes last? 5. Does it make sense? 6. Paste and color
