These reports are an opportunity for you to explain what you did and what you found so that someone else can understand it. Practice writing. Need a full explanation  a complete “story”. Some common problems: 1. Don’t over use words such as: “Then” “Next” “After” “Again” 2. Don’t use two verbs when one will do. Don’t “add” and “mix” Don’t “take” and “weigh” or “take” and “place” Don’t “place” and “spin” 3. Don’t “weigh out” or “decant off” or “precipitate out”. 4. Some things are understood: You will use clean tubes. You will label your tubes properly.

Miscellaneous Points 1. The words “then” and “than” are not the same. You come to class, then you fall asleep. Everyone likes Sternfeld better than Rossi. 2. The word Absorbancy is not used. 3. No “centrifuge machine” or “spectrophotometer machine”. 4. Be careful in using “a” versus “the”. We made an homogenate. We pipetted 2 ml of the homogenate into a centrifuge tube. The centrifuge tube was spun in a centrifuge.

Which of the following need fixing? Tubes were added to a boiling beaker of water. The tubes were then placed in a centrifuge and run for 2 min. 120 ml of distilled water was put in a blender and turned on. The pellet was resuspended with 5 ml of 5% TCA and centrifuged again for two minutes and combined with the other test tube.

The tube was placed in the centrifuge and spun for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes the supernatant was then discarded. After discarding the supernatant 5 ml of 10% TCA was then added and mixed. The tube was then put into the centrifuge and spun for 2 minutes. When the 2 minutes was up the tube was removed from the centrifuge and the supernatant removed with a Pasteur pipette and discarded into a waste container. Then the 95% ethanol was added with the graduated cylinder to the pellet. It was mixed and put into the centrifuge and spun for 2 minutes.

The tube was again spun for 2 min and the resulting supernatant discarded. The tube was spun in the centrifuge for 2 min. After discarding the supernatant, 5 ml of 10% TCA was mixed with the pellet.

Ten ml of 95% ethanol was mixed with the pellet before spinning the suspension for 2 min. The tube was spun in the centrifuge for 2 min. After discarding the supernatant, 5 ml of 10% TCA was mixed with the pellet. The tube was again spun for 2 min and the resulting supernatant discarded.
