226 August Agenda HP’s environmental goals Reducing environmental impact across the product life cycle HP Planet Partners Programme – Product return and recycling

326 August 2015 HP’s environmental goals

426 August 2015 HP’s social and environmental legacy Start 1930’s1980’s–1990’s2000’s - Today Incorporated environmental sustainability to drive change, action, leadership 1987 First IT company HW recycling Computer product recycling 1988 Hazardous Waste Minimization Council 1989 PVC removed from DeskJet pkg 1991 Planet Partners Program 1992 Design For Environment Program; EPA Energy Star Partner 1993 Instant-On Technology HP’s deep-rooted legacy focused on corporate and social responsibility 1930’s Commitment to the community 1950’s Global Citizenship objective 1970 First environment control coordinator at HP 1971 Recycling computer print-outs and punch cards Environmental policy to reduce pollution 1975 Energy Conservation Guidelines 1976 Van pools in Bay Area. 726 August 2015 Multiple Paths, One Goal Most comprehensive environmental portfolio in industry Enabling Smart Choices Eco Highlights Label (IPG first to implement) Eco Solutions program Conserving Energy and resources Enterprises can reduce carbon footprint by 30% HP Carbon Footprint Calculator for Printing Eco Printing Assessment New Tools/Products: HP Auto-On/Auto-Off HP LaserJet Power Calculator End of Life programs Halo – 4X internal studios by 2009 Retail photo printing Digital Publishing, On-Demand Printing Books Newspapers Collateral Latex inks Offering Product Recycling Programs, Reuse In 2008 HP will have recycled more than 250 million HP inkjet and LaserJet cartridges since the inception of HP Planet Partners Introducing HP printers w/RPET derived from recycled HP cartridges

826 August 2015 HP’s commitment Improve energy efficiency of HP LaserJet and Inkjet printers 40% by 2011 –Reached previous goal of 30% –Baseline for goal is 2005 By 2010, HP will increase the use of recycled material in inkjet products by 3x, relative to 2007 Recycle more than 250 million HP inkjet and LaserJet cartridges by Fall 2008 −An increase of 25% in less than one year −Since the inception of the HP Planet Partners Program in 1991 Ensure that 100% of HP's consumer photo paper will derive from sustainable forest certified suppliers in 2009 −Adding to existing portfolio of 100% certified HP everyday papers

926 August 2015 Reducing environmental impact across the product life cycle

1026 August 2015 Product Lifecycl e HP Printing Supplies Environmental Goals Reduce environmental impact of HP printing supplies throughout the product life cycle Design for Environment –Right materials, minimizing parts, enabling recyclability, product stewards implement across the business Manufacturing –Production processes which ensure environmental compliance and reduce impact Use –Minimize waste (failures, reprints), increase energy and resource efficiency End of Life Management –Convenient and effective end-of-life recycling solutions to minimize waste and support ‘closed loop’ initiatives Maintain high levels of product reliability and print quality

1126 August 2015 Design for the environment

1226 August 2015 Manufacturing

1326 August 2015 Use

1426 August 2015 The environmental impact of quality Original HP cartridges help reduce waste HP photo papers with Auto Sense, which work with Auto Sense enabled HP printers automatically select the optimal blend of speed and image quality to save you ink and paper High capacity cartridge options maximize material efficiency Manageability optimizes output to reduce waste –When you use Original HP print cartridges, you’ll receive alerts when ink or toner levels are low so that you don’t waste paper by printing pages if you are running out of ink or toner –HP Web Jetadmin tracks ink and toner usage and issues regular supplies updates so you can plan ahead and avoid wasted pages A variety of unique features ensure you get the most from your Original HP print cartridges

1626 August 2015 HP Supplies’ sound environmental practices in the context of the market

1726 August August 2015 HP vs. OEM competition Most of the OEMs offer some return and recycling solutions to their customers Many limit this offer only to selected customer categories, or limited product range, or only offer very limited geographical coverage HP has been demonstrating leadership in providing comprehensive return and recycling service across customer segments and supplies product categories, supported by widespread geographical presence of Planet Partners *

1826 August August 2015 HP supports customer choice, and customers looking for quality choose HP For customers concerned about initial purchase price and less about quality, –A remanufactured or refilled cartridge may be an alternative HP does not prevent remanufacturing or refilling Customers choose HP printing supplies for their superior value: –Unsurpassed reliability –Superior quality –Overall lower costs –Enhanced productivity –Ease-of-use –Peace of mind –Environmentally-sound choice without compromise *

1926 August 2015 Cartridge remanufacturers’ environmental claims fail to account for environmental impacts often associated with their operations, including paper waste, parts replacement and disposal, and international empties transport. “While the use of remanufactured supplies can reduce initial acquisition costs and prevent cartridges [from] going to landfills, organizations must understand that many remanufacturers do not have proper disposal practices, and their efforts may not be environmentally sound.” Source: Gartner, “How to Manage the Environmental Impact of Printing,” August 8, 2007, Frederico de Silva Leon and Ken Weilerstein. What about cartridge remanufacturers?

2026 August 2015 What about remanufactured cartridges? Industry research firm InfoTrends found four out of five remanufactured toner cartridges sold will be thrown away after use. Many remanufacturers avoid, and some even refuse, to collect their own-brand cartridges for recycling. “In the U.S. and Europe, 80% of remanufactured toner cartridges … are thrown away. This is because remanufacturers have such a strong preference for virgin empties [cartridges not previously remanufactured].” Source: “Remanufacturer information from InfoTrends Strategic Assessment, “US and European Cartridge Collections and Recycling 2007: Laser and Inkjet Cartridges for Use in HP,” Cathy Martin and John Shane, March Commissioned by HP.

2126 August 2015 What about cartridge remanufacturers? Remanufacturers provide little if any public reporting about their environmental management practices. “Transparent and public reporting of environmental performance was not available from any of the remanufacturers that we surveyed.” Source: “Remanufacturer information from InfoTrends Strategic Assessment, “US and European Cartridge Collections and Recycling 2007: Laser and Inkjet Cartridges for Use in HP,” Cathy Martin and John Shane, March Commissioned by HP.

2226 August August 2015 Environmental benefits of remanufactured cartridges are not as obvious as they seem It’s worth asking: What do remanufacturers do with the many cartridges they cannot use? What percentage of collected cartridges do they just discard? Where do the used and worn parts go? In which country and in what working conditions does the remanufacturing take place? How many times do they remanufacture a cartridge? If it’s only once, can a customer rely on the remanufacturer to take back and recycle the cartridge? If it’s more than once, what kind of quality do you get? How does the lower reliability of a remanufactured cartridge influence the total impact on the environment?

2326 August 2015 Leading the Way HP will continue our commitment to corporate environmental responsibility which started with William Hewlett and David Packard in the 1930’s HP pledges to improve the overall energy efficiency of its printing products, increase the amount of recycled materials used in our products, source paper from certified sustainable forests and continue the evolution of our recycling/reuse efforts HP’s goal is to be the most environmentally responsible IT company in terms of energy efficiency, resource conservation and end of life programs HP’s Imaging and Printing Group is helping customers reduce their environmental impact by delivering the most comprehensive portfolio of environmental solutions to the industry –We’ve proven that enterprise customers can reduce their carbon footprint by 30% when using HP imaging and printing tools and services
