Today we will determine the rule of a Linear Equations Graph = a visual of a set of ordered pairs on a grid

APK ( Work with your partner) xY = x + 1y(x, y) y = x Choose 3 values for “x” and place them in a table. 2. Find solutions using table 3. Graph the points from the table 4. Draw a line to connect them y = ( 1, 2) y = y = ( 2, 3) ( 3, 4)

The Rule of Linear Equation Is the relationship between the two variables in an equation Example: y = x + 2

Why is this important? You can use this to solve real life problems (For example, when you are adding and subtracting from your bank account constantly) This will help you with algebra You HAVE to know algebra to get into college.

Finding the Rule xy(x, y) 1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line and place it in a table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y ( 2, 7) ( 3, 8) ( 1, 6) ( 2, 7) ( 3, 8) x Y = x + 5

Let’s Try xy(x, y) 1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line. Make a table and place them in the table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y ( 2, 4) ( 3, 5) ( 1, 3) ( 2, 4) ( 3, 5) x Y = x + 2

Let’s Try xy(x, y) 1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line and place it in a table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y ( 2, 4) ( 3, 6) ( 1, 2) ( 2, 4) ( 3, 6) +1 x 2 Y = 2x

Let’s Try xy(x, y) 1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line and place them in a table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y ( 2, 2) ( 3, 3) ( 1, 1) ( 2, 2) ( 3, 3) x1 Y = X

1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line and place them in a table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y xy(x, y)

What did you learn? What is a rule in a linear equation? Why is it important? 1. Identify the ordered pairs of the dots on the line and place them in a table 2. Find the rule by figuring out what happened to X to get Y 3. Make sure the rule applies to all ordered pairs 4. Write the rule for identifying Y xy(x, y)
