The adventures of Josephine By Christine Starkyl Written in South Sudan

Miss Starkyl can’t take any photographs as officials might think she is a spy! These pictures are from the internet. What can you find out about South Sudan?

Chapter One Miss Starkyl wrote this story in South Sudan. This is exactly what she saw in one hour…

Under the Mango tree Josephine sat under the mango tree. It was a hot, sunny day. The roads were dry and dusty.

Everyone was looking forward to the rainy season so the dust would settle. The rains would start to come in March and the weather would become cooler. As Josephine sat, she saw…….

a little boy playing with a large old car tyre, a cattle herder tending to eight cows, a lady balancing a very heavy bowl full of shopping on her head, a child riding a bicycle with his friend perched on the back,

two adults and a baby riding a motorbike, four goats grazing in the nearby field, children pumping water from a Borehole, a man having a sleep under a Palm tree, a girl carrying a baby on her back,

three children carrying large Jerry cans full of water on their heads, a small boy carrying a large buddle of reeds on his head, a soldier carrying a gun, a man weaving a mat with dry reeds and a little boy on his own with no shoes.

As Josephine sat, she wondered where all the people were going, and where all the people had been. Josephine had learnt a lot about the lives of people in South Sudan just by sitting under the mango tree.
