THE FEAST OF EPIPHANY BY THE PUPILS OF YEAR 3(Γ1) Epiphany is a great Christian feast in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s baptism in the Jordan river by John the Baptist. It is celebrated on 6 th January and it is the last third feast of the Christmas festivities ( twelve days of Christmas). The name “Epiphany” derives from the revelation of the Holy Trinity, that is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our people honour this great festivity. On Epiphany’s Eve children go carol singing from door to door announcing Christ’s baptism. Κάλαντα φώτων/Epiphany’s carols Today the lights of Epiphany And great joys and blessings.

Our church celebrates Epiphany solemnly. After the Liturgy a great blessing takes place near the sea, lakes, rivers. Water and all the environment is blessed. The priest chanting casts the cross into the water and the young ones jump in to retrieve it.

The bells are ringing joyfully and pigeons fly in the sky. Boats and ships are whistling. At the end all drink the holy water and take it with them to sprinkle their houses, machines, fields, everything.
