Parent curriculum evening Year R – Miss Jones Monday 22nd September 2014

We have 6 broad topics to cover over the year: Term 1: I am a superstar! Term 2: We’re going on a book hunt! Term 3: Spring into life Term 4: Spring into life Term 5: Down on the farm Term 6: Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

How to help your child at home Letter sound book Reading book Maths game Humpty word wall What children take home each week:

Letter sound book Letter sounds as we learn them, following the Read Write Inc. programme Is it a bouncy or a stretchy sound? Simple words to read by blending the sounds together Models cursive letter formation

Reading book 2 books changed each week (Monday and Thursday) It would be really helpful if you comment in your child’s diary Children can use pictures to tell the story to begin with You can support your child to recognise letter sounds, and then to sound out simple words

Maths game 1 game changed each week (Tuesday) Please comment on your child’s record sheet Working towards the Early Learning Goal (end of year) Order numbers 1-20 Say 1 more / 1 less than 1-20 Add and subtract 2 single-digit numbers Problem solving, e.g. doubling, halving Using mathematical language e.g. for describing size, capacity, position Recreating patterns Using 2D and 3D shapes

Humpty word wall There are 100 high frequency words for children to learn by the end of Year 1 Children will learn words in school You can support your child to sound out words on wall they bring home Some words cannot be sounded out, but children need to learn them from memory

What’s coming up? We aim to have a special day each term related to our topic, either a visit or a visitor where possible 12 th December – Christmas discos 16 th December – Christmas play 17 th December – Christmas play 18 th December – Christmas service and parties
