2 Aims of the evening: To show Parents what learning at Muscliff Primary School looks like To provide Parents with ideas and practical tips on how to help their child at home with:  Reading and Phonics  Writing  Maths

6 New Reception information Wow slips Home learning starting after half term: published on the website. Nativity dates- R Star 7 th December 10am R Moon 8 th December 10am R Sun 9 th December 10am Book look: 20 th October 3:30pm - 4pm Parent Craft: 14 th October 2:45pm Parent conferences: 17 th and 19 th November School library visits start after half term. (Thursday's every other week) From next week: drop off at the gate (gate will close at 8:45) Behaviour policy

8 Learning to read Picture clues and telling the story through pictures Phonics to sound out Lots of praise! Comprehension

9 Phonics ‘Phonics is teaching reading by training children to associate letters with their sound. ‘ Jolly phonics Blending Phoneme Grapheme Digraph/ trigraph

10 Word bags Two types of words go into their word bags: - Blue are decodable nonsense (ones that you can blend) -White are key words/ high frequency words Look and say method up to 3 ticks (by us) and then they are changed.

11 Jolly phonics sheets 4 each week Words starting with that letter An action Colouring Forming the letter in cursive

12 Guided Reading Children read with in their groups once a week Each read has a particular focus e.g. Comprehension, blending, key words, predictions. Comment in home school books Guided reading workshop to follow

13 Choosing books The colour choosing book the children will be reading will be recorded in the their home school book. The level is usually one level below the band that they are reading during guided reading. The children are allowed one book at a time and it is their responsibility to change the book when needed.

14 Early Learning Goal for reading ‘Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.’
