Essential Question: How are we effected by the four parts of health?

 By the end of the lesson, students will understand there is a relationship between mental, emotional, social and physical health. ◦ Students will complete notebook activity over the introduction of health.

 Health is the condition of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being  Wellness is a state of good health that is achieved by balancing four kinds of well- being

 In other words: ◦ Wellness is a state that is achieved by balancing your health.

 To be healthy, you need to have all four parts in balance. Those are: ◦ Physical Health ◦ Emotional Health ◦ Mental Health ◦ Social Health

 The state of a person that is usually free of illness, injury or pain.  The part of health that deals with the body

 The way a person recognizes and deals with their feelings.

 The way a person copes with daily life.

 The way a person interacts with other people.

1. Heredity- traits that are passed down from parents to children  Certain diseases can be passed down from parents to children ◦ Muscular dystrophy ◦ Heart disease ◦ Twins

2. Environment- Living and nonliving things around you.  Some disease can be triggered by your environment. ◦ Asthma- air pollution, smoking, etc. ◦ Seasonal affective disorder- not getting enough sunlight. ◦ Vog- allergies

 Write a 3-4 sentence summary about the notes you took.  Glue notes onto the right hand page.

 Review your Cornell Notes and choose 5 vocabulary words.
