THE FLOOD Stephen E. LaFleur, ThD Copyright 1999

In Genesis 6-8, we have the story of the flood. Some people say it was a myth and never happened. Some people say it happened just the way the Bible says. Some people say it happened, but not the way “we think” the Bible says. What about you?

Some people say that the Flood story is full of problems. Let’s look and see if there are problems and what we can do about them.

Genesis 10:5 American Standard Version (ASV) Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. The sons of Noah spread themselves to “other nations” after the flood. PROBLEM: What “other nations?”

The Genesis account speaks in several places about the water covering “all the earth”. Does it really mean “all the earth”? PROBLEM: How could it cover that much land?

PROBLEM: If water covered all the earth, where did it all go? Still looking at the water issue,

We are told that “people of color” were from Noah’s son? PROBLEM: Then why do the other offspring not have the same DNA?

Noah was told to gather two of each kind of animal. PROBLEM: How did he get them?

Another animal problem PROBLEM: Where did he put them all? them all?

Animals? You think you have a large food bill? PROBLEM: What did he feed them?

After the flood Problem: What then? Where did all the animals go?

Maybe the Bible made a mistake? No, we just don’t understand what it really says and we have created our own version.

Our God, in His infinite wisdom, did not create problems we outlined, but planned the Flood in minute detail to cover only one particular portion of the earth to save species indigenous to the area and ordered the ark to be build to the size that would accommodate the correct number of animals to be contained and properly cared for.

But what about all the evidence about a worldwide floor? Every nation has it in its traditions. Every part of the earth has sedimentary layers to prove the existence of a worldwide flood. Yes, there was a universal flood. but.....

The universal flood was many years before Noah. Genesis 1:2 “and the earth was ( became in the Hebrew ) without form and void... and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”

Let’s see where Noah’s flood took place... and how it fits into the scripture

God’s word is true. We create problems by not “rightly dividing the Word of Truth”.
