DDP – Chemical Engineering and Business Administration LEE JUN WEI

Outline - DDP requirements - Workload per semester - Planning your modules & timetable - Personal advice/experience

DDP Requirements - No need to take UEMs, IAs - For people who did not get B or above for GP for A levels (like me), you have to do 2 communication modules instead of 1 (GET1021 & ES2331 instead of ES1501X) - Accounting students have a higher total MCs to clear because there are few common modules between accounting and engineering. - Specialization may require additional modules to be taken for Business. ModulesBBA (Hons)BBA Engineering83 Business Common28*/32 GEMs20 Total MCs211/ /195+ *Based on Chemical Engineering + BBA

DDP Requirements - Schedule

Workload per semester - Before planning your workload, few points to consider: 1) Any commitments (CCAs, external activities, competitions)? 2) Going for NOC/SEPs or doing IAs in future? 3) How fast do you want to graduate? 6 years, 5 years or 4 years? 4) Your pace of studies – Can you cope with 7/6 modules per semester?

Workload per semester - Following the timetable given by the Engineering Department (which excludes IAs, SEP, etc), you will graduate by 5-6 years. - If each semester you overload by 1 mod (6 modules of 24 MCs) = 4.5 years to graduate - If each semester you overload by 2 mod (6 modules of 28 MCs) = 4 years to graduate - Can also take special semesters to lessen your load. - My Recommended workload: 6 mods per semester. With the new S/U system, take advantage of this system, take 6 mods this semester and adapt to this work-pace.

Planning Modules - Usually for engineering modules, it will be pre-allocated to us, so we do not have to plan/bid for it. - Whereas for business modules, you have to bid for your business modules for the first semester. For subsequent semesters, you will get your business modules through the “Preferential Exercise” in which you can choose how many/what biz mod you wish to take. (Not 100% you will get the mods though, but high chance you will!) - Balance between modules that have no exams (modules with heavy project-work/meetings) and modules with exam! Go online forum/google to check how heavy a module is.

Planning the timetable Year 1 Semester 2 timetable -Choose a tutorial time-slot/lecture time-slot whichever is convenient for you. -I recommend filling as many lectures/tutorials in one entire day whenever possible so that the remaining weekdays can be used to catch-up on studies, weekends on social life/relax.

Personal advice/experience - Find a group of friends taking similar degree as you. Important!! Stick in your team, bid the same modules/tutorials together, help each other out! - Always planned ahead! Try not to take modules such that the exams fall on the same date. - Time management and discipline Social life, rest time and studies. If you manage your time well and have enough discipline in your work. DDP is actually quite manageable.

Personal advice/experience - Build up your contacts Knowing who to approach when you faced any difficulties is important! E.g. If you fail to get a module you want, and have no more modules that you can take, who do you approach? - Is it required to attend all lectures/ non-graded tutorials? Not really. Depends on you. (Not trying to encourage you to skip lectures/tutorials, but sometimes its better to invest time on other stuff when necessary) - When to call it quits? When to quit DDP? What is your goal? Business/Accounting is not interesting? Have you done your best? Too much pressure?
