Arts and Crafts: Design in a Nutshell

Calligraphy Calligraphy (from Ancient Greek: κάλλος kall os "beauty" + γραφή graphẽ "writing")Ancient Greekκάλλοςγραφή

So what is calligraphy it is a type of visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering. Modern calligraphy ranges from functional hand-lettered inscriptions and designs to fine- art pieces where the abstract expression of the handwritten mark may or may not compromise the legibility of the letters.

Roman Rustic Capitals Gothic And so many more….

The word ‘alphabet’ refers to a series of symbols (letters) each of which represents one or more sounds, including vowels as well as consonants. Because each letter of an alphabet stand for a sound, different letters can be combined in order to represent the sound of every single word in our language. We use the sounds (and the written words which represent the sounds) to mean different real objects, actions and locations. The word ‘alphabet’ comes from the Greek ‘alpha, beta’ which are the names of the first two letters in the Greek alphabet:

What we are going to do is learn about how to make letters in this way, and then create a illuminated manuscript. So what is a Illuminated manuscript? An illuminated manuscript is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented by the addition of decoration, such as decorated initials, borders. ? The earliest ones ever found were from AD 400 to 600
